Swing it sunny summary10/31/2022 ![]() ![]() They leave to go continue negotiations with the executive, leaving Dee behind, answering her question "What am I supposed to do?" with "Don't give a shit!"ĭee goes to an Oldies Rock Cafe to apply for a job. Frank continues to refuse to sell, but like the others, when he sees the offer, he immediately changes his position to "Let's sell this piece of shit bar!" Frank says, though, that they need to let the executive "woo" them to get a bit more money out of them. Dee joins in in urging him to sell, but she is informed that she owns no shares in the bar, so she will get nothing from the sale. Charlie, Mac, and Dennis state "Paddy's Pub can't be bought" - but when the executive shows them how much he'll pay, they immediately change their mind.īack at the bar, Frank says he refuses to sell. He regains his composure, and he tells the guys that his company, a restaurant chain, thinks Paddy's Pub's location would be the perfect spot for an "Oldies Rock Cafe". We then see that the "corporate drone" has been there the whole time, apparently completely nonplussed by what he's heard. #SWING IT SUNNY SUMMARY MAC#Mac calls an end to the arguing and says that he wants to get their meeting with a "corporate drone" over with as quickly as possible. Charlie proposes that if they don't have helipads, then perhaps they have secret tunnels under the buildings. Mac argues that there's always a "fat cat" who needs to make a quick escape. Meanwhile, Dee quits her job at Paddy's (again) and pressures The Waitress to get her a job at a TGIFriday's-style restaurant.Ĭharlie, Mac, and Dennis are sitting in what appears to be an executive's office, engaged in their usual habit of enlightened intellectual discourse: in this case, they're arguing if there are helipads on the roofs of the office buildings around them. Overall, I'd give this one a 3.The gang tries to persuade a restaurant chain to buy their pub. But, it wasn't like any of the beach films were all that good when it came to production values.they didn't need to be better in order to make money. The camerawork is sloppy as are some of the edits (which are very abrupt) and the acting and writing are pretty broad as well. So is it any good? Well, despite the excellent musical acts and pretty girls and color film, there is a definite cheapness to the look of the picture. I am sure guys back in 1965 appreciated this and it helped with the box office receipts. I mention words like 'beautiful' and 'gorgeous' because like every beach film, this one is jam-packed with incredibly pretty young women.probably MORE than you'd find in most of these movies. The only highlight is the dopey scene where she takes off her glasses and lets down her hair to reveal she's a hot babe(?).as the song she then sings is pretty memorable and cute. Despite her beauty, most every scene with her was poorly written and dumb. What a fool, as she adores him and she is a gorgeous and rich young lady! In addition to this plot in this highly episodic film, you have the super-sexy brainiac (Welch) who sports nerd glasses and talks as if she's reading from a physics textbook! Clearly, she's one dimensional and a bit of a caricature.albeit an amazingly beautiful one. However, the girlfriend of one of the guys, Rick, is able to convince them to put on the concert and the boyfriend is a giant butt-head and is upset she helped him because he's apparently a macho idiot. The film is about a couple guys who want to put on a concert for the young folks.and at first, they have little success with a local promoter (Allan Jones). And, like most beach films, this one features some hip musical acts.and much better ones than normal with The Righteous Brothers, Gary Lewis and the Playboys as well as The Rip-Chords. And, instead of Frankie and Annette, you have a variety of lesser-known talent.including the then unknown Raquel Welch in a very silly role. So, you get to see a lot of Lake Arrowhead instead of the Pacific. Unlike other beach films, this one is set at a lakefront resort. #SWING IT SUNNY SUMMARY MOVIE#So, it's not surprising that companies other than American-International would make their own beach movie knock-offs, such as "A Swingin' Summer". ![]() After all, they cost little to make and teens and young adults flocked to drive-ins to see these silly pictures. ![]() Although it's hard to figure out the attraction of the films today, beach movies were immensely popular among young people in the mid-1960s. ![]()
